The MRF blimp

I watch many of the matches on TV with my nephew (avid cricket fan and 9 year old).

We try not to be cynical during the match and don't comment about the quality of commentary and clichéd phrases or that "like a tracer bullet" are trademarked :) so that we don't spoil his experience.

So yesterday as SMG and others went on and on about how MRF is pioneering some cutting edge technology by bringing the blimp, at some point in the second match, he turns around and says

"Why do they have to say that so many times? They almost say it 50 times a match. Won't once a match be enough?"

Dear IPL commentators: Hope you are listening. Some of the marketing is getting too much for a kid! And isn't the MRF blimp just a big balloon? Hearing the commentators, one would have thought that the blimp is a great technical marvel!

In one previous match, one commentator kept on reming us that "tomorrow is Jadhav's B'day".

The kid is right they are too repetitive, and as you said too clichéd too.

Very well noticed taht the commentators are mentioning great deal about the MRF blimp with the latest technology and bla bla.. Repetition of certain things really irritates people and such things shouldbe controlled.

absolutely true my friends... and also they keep saying one thing all the time : that's karbon kamaal ka katch , irrespective of the fact that was that a easy one or really a kamaal one. Kid noticing about the MRF blimp being hyped is certainly a CITY MOMENT OF SUCCESS. :)

@a bisht -- maybe they wanted us to send him a cake.

@sp -- I understand it is hard to talk and come up with new things to say everyday. but when a kid says they are repeating something too much without any prompting, they have overdone it!

@paresh -- There is a subtlety that they are missing.

@ravi -- it took me a couple of matches to realize that every catch was a kamal catch :) lol on the citi moment of success.

Well guys these are all part of a deal. Please understand that Blimp is indeed a new technology that not only showcases MRF as a brand, but keeps a track on maximum and minimum temprature, humidity etc. This is the first time it is in India.

Instead of being Critical, I think we all must appreciate the fact that a company has innovated the deal and make sure that you are noticing it. The fact that we all remember it in a match is what they look at. Doesnt matter how bugging it gets, the fact that your able to recall it itself shows how successful their innovation has been. Something out of the ordinary.

@karun.......I must say that you are certainly right. Instead of the repeated boring ads on television, they made sure the money they have paid for have been made good. As much as I was bugged about the repeated comments about the MRF Blimp, I am trying to look at the good side of it.

Dear all...please understand that it is all part of an advertisement deal. since the 10 minute time out is reduced to 5 minutes in 'viewers interest', they have to somehow add extra 5 minutes for advertisements. Now they are doing it without going to commercial breaks by showing this 'marvel' called blimp and also showing the adds on stadium screen on tv...The blimp is neither a technological marvel nor it is a first timer...

dear all,

blimp is originated some 80 years back and now for the first time it is in india. it is a great deal. if some one is intrested and need one to do ads please contact me with around 35 lakhs in hand.

Hello!

Blimp is not a new technology... Blimps, is a sophisticated word for a balloon.
If fitting a thermometre on the blimp to tells us the temperature is cutting edge technology....

Cheers..

I'm an American born and raised so cricket is something I have no background in, but I do love watching the full matches of the IPL on YouTube. It's really the only chance we have at seeing any form of cricket in its entirety; there is no other way except pay-per-view.

The MRF blimp does make me laugh though. If it was in, say, Chad, I could understand the enthusiasm. But for me, unless there's a camera on the blimp, it's just a big advertising balloon. They should at least make it shaped like King Kong or something.

But I do love the IPL! Go CSK!

Eagerly anticipating the 'KFC LBW', the 'Coca Cola stumping', the Marlboro Innings Break' and the KY Gel dropped catch'.. can't believe they left a few regular cricket activities un-sponsored.. shame!!

The MRF blimp by the way, ranks with the Gatorade Heart-rate monitor as lamest "innovation" ever!!! Tony Greig should find his old Pitch-crack checking key and puncture the crappy blimp.. would love to see it go up in flames, Hindenburg style.. The humanity!!!!
