Exclusive interviews

What constitutes exclusive interviews in the Indian media?
Does it mean it is not a press conference?
Does it mean the room is exclusive?
Does it mean that the person conducting the interview is exclusive to the channel?
Does it mean that it is exclusive for 4-5 hours?

Just checking... because in the last 5-7 days I have come across atleast 5 if not more "exclusive" interviews with Ganguly in both Hindi and English news channels. The questions are mostly similar, the answers also. Why stamp it as an exclusive interview, when folks may watch it anyway?

RS,

I can help you there.

If a celebrity answers questions put to him in your studio then it becomes exclusive.

Whereas it becomes common or non-exclusive if he answers the same question when he is on the way to a tryst.

ottayan,

I guess originally exclusive used to mean when no other channel was allowed this one-on-one interview ?

I wonder why emphasize the "exclusive" word. A candid interview with Ganguly or terms like that should capture the imagination of the viewer.

The term could be a vestige.

Yes RS, your idea about exclusive is right.. But the media never leaves any stone unturned to attract viewers.

Yes, I just don't like how they sensationalize everything :)

Seriously! Exclusive is losing its meaning. Maybe the kids of the next generation will use the word exclusive in the way we use "just-another-thing" or even "time pass". :) Good catch, RS. You're certainly not alone in your frustrations with the media.

The media is boring and I doubt anyone watches it for the word exclusive which was the case many years back... now it has led to a condition called banner blindness.

However, for us bloggers we have real exclusive comments!

Hoow eees it.

@vmm, scorpicity

The media is sometimes irresponsible as well. If I want balanced reports, I prefer to look at the blogging community :)

But you've got to sell a product! Lying and sensation is the first prerequisite for that. It is nly after the attention has been gained that truth may be told in graded doses as per requirement of course.

that is why one channel has the "battle pitch" series ? I can't stand it even channel surfing through it.

I don't think cricket in India needs to be promoted in this manner - perhaps some other stories. If an errand guy comes home and a match is going on, he still asks for the score :) so interest is there without the hype
